(Renton, WA) The WIAA has announced a change in venue for this year’s State girls 4A and 3A semifinals and finals from their longtime home, Sparks Stadium near Puyallup High School to Mount Si High School.
The reason was due to several scheduling conflicts and potential conflicts. The State soccer final 4 takes place during the football quarterfinal round and the Puyallup Vikings are the number 1 4A team in the state and are expected to have to play on either that Friday or Saturday. Additionally, Puyallup shares the stadium with Emerald Ridge and Rogers High Schools.
Emerald Ridge is another team that very well could have a home quarterfinal game during those days. The stadium is also home to other events and teams for example PLU plays their home games at Sparks.
Puyallup District AD Jim Meyerhoff and his crew have hosted the 4a, 3A State Soccer finals for well more than a decade. They also hosted the 3A and 2A State football Championships for three years when the WIAA had to leave the Tacoma Dome and before they were able to work out a deal with Husky Stadium.
The new line-up is now the 4A, 3A girls at Mount Si High School, 2A, 1A girls at Federal Way and the B girls and B boys at Mt Tahoma High School. Sparks at this point looks like they will continue to host the 4A, 3A boys soccer final 4 in the Spring. The 2A and 1A boys will stay at Federal Way also in the Spring.
