(Rochster, WA) Rochester schools superintendent and Centralia superintendent notified both teams and community that tonight’s football game of Centralia at Rochester has been cancelled due to what is being deemed a credible threat of violence.

A student at Centralia High School reported a threat to a Centralia administrator and authorities were called and believed it was a credible threat. Centralia Superintendent Lisa Grant contacted Rochester Superintendent Justin Black and the decision was made to cancel the game. That announcement was made public about 4 hours prior to kick-off.

There has been a discussion of re-scheduling the game and if and when they feel it is safe to play they will make the announcement.

Below is the joint statement from both Black and Grant.

Important Community Update: Tonight’s Football Game Canceled Due to Safety Concerns

Dear Rochester and Centralia Families and Community,

The safety of our students, staff, families, and community is always our highest priority.
This afternoon, a student reported a potential threat involving tonight’s football game between Rochester High School and Centralia High School to a Centralia School District administrator. Following an investigation, the threat has been determined to be credible.
Based on the information available at this time, both districts mutually made the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s football game between Rochester and Centralia.
We understand that this news may be concerning and disappointing for our students, families, athletes, and community members. However, when it comes to the safety of those we serve, we will always err on the side of caution. No athletic event is more important than the well-being of our students and communities.
We also want to recognize the student who came forward to report this concern. Speaking up when something doesn’t seem right is an important part of keeping our schools and communities safe. We encourage all students and families to continue reporting any information that could impact the safety of others.
We are exploring options to reschedule the football game and will share updates as more information becomes available.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we make decisions with the safety of our students, families, and communities at the forefront.
