Toledo 3, Rainier 2 (22-25, 18,25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-6)
(Toledo, WA) In a Central 2B League showdown from George Murdock Gymnasium the #7 Toledo Riverhawks took down their second #1 rated squad in as many weeks, as they reverse swept the Rainier Mountaineers to win the match 3-2. The Riverhawks defeated former #1 Onalaska last Tuesday, 3-1.
Early Sets go Rainier’s way
The match started off with Toledo scrapping on defense to withstand a withering Rainier attack. Central 2B League MVP Allyson Ooms of Rainier delivered a convincing ace to make set one 11-8 for the Mountaineers and followed with a destructive kill to make it 18-14. Rainier setter Courtney Eckroth delivered over two dozen assists throughout the match, beginning in set 1 that the Mountaineers would take 25-22.
In set 2, Rainier rolled out to a comfortable 19-13 lead when the Riverhawks made a run to close that gap to 19-18. The Mountaineers responded reeling off 5 straight points behind the serving of sophomore Jessica Adamski.
Toledo unwilling to throw in the towel
Rainier was cruising into set 3 with their eyes on a sweep. Toledo in a must win set quickly jumped on the Mountaineers with a 7-4 lead. The two squads would battle back and forth to a 16-16 tie and then on a blistering kill shot from the Riverhawks Ellie Fallon gave Toledo a 1 point lead. 17-16. Rainier would not give in but a late surge from Toledo gave them the edge led by a sweet off-speed return by Fallon for the 24th point. Toledo’s Taysia Miller would punch the game winning shot in and Toledo stayed alive.
Toledo had shifted the momentum to their favor but Rainier led early and were up 6-5. That’s when the Riverhawks found another gear and went on a 3-1 scoring spree to go up a commanding 23-13 lead on an 18-7 run. The Mountaineers did fight back but it was too little too late with Toledo evening the match at 2-2.
In set five, the Riverhawks led 7-4 and then seized the momentum they had built firong off a key 3 point run to go up 10-4. It was too much for Rainier to overcome and Toledo completed the 0-2 comeback to win their 3rd set in a row and take the match 3-2.

Junior Ellie Fallon, took over and with timely passes from Kruger, finished off the Mountaineers in style, 15-6, to take the match.
What’s Next
The Toledo Riverhawks improved to 8-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play. The Riverhawks will next face Naselle in a non-league home match on Monday and then back to conference play on Tuesday at Mossyrock. Both matches begin at 7pm.
Rainier drops to 0-1 in league and 9-2 for the season. The Mountaineers are home on Thursday in Central 2B play against Mossyrock and then travel to Napavine next Tuesday with 7pm 1st serve times.
