( Chehalis, WA ) The Chehalis Bearcats are off to a hot start this season with an 8-0-2 overall record and 3-0 in EVCO 2A play. Centralia is 3-5-1 overall and 1-2 in league after dropping their last 2 matches to Aberdeen and Tumwater. The Bearcats are looking to keep their unbeaten streak alive while the Tigers are looking to bounce back against their cross town rivals.
WF West 2, Centralia 2
Right out of the gates the match had a scoring opportunity a minute and a half in after one of the Tigers was fouled right outside of the WF West penalty area. The kick taken by Dina Silva sailed over the cross bar.
In the third minute a tackle in the Centralia penalty area led to a penalty kick taken and made by Mirabel Burger for the 1-0 Bearcat lead.
The Tigers thought they would have a penalty kick of their own in the 8th minute after a hand ball in the box. After the official got together the penalty was waved off.
Centralia got the equalizer goal in the 17th minute. A pinpoint pass by Dina Silva to Eva Reinitz who shot low and under the Bearcat keeper’s hands. The half ended with the score tied at 1 all.
Halftime WF West 1, Centralia 1
The second half started a lot like the first with a penalty just outside of the box. This time it was the Bearcats getting fouled. Mirabel Burger stepped up and sent a floating shot over the Tigers keeper’s head and into the back netting for the 2-1 lead just 4 minutes into the half.
The Bearcats maintained more possession in the 2nd half and had a couple chances to extend their lead but couldn’t find the back of the net.
In stoppage time the Tigers gave on final push. Silva sent a long low pass forward and found sub Ty Leal-Minor who turned and fired in the equalizer with seconds remaining in the match.
In years past that would have forced overtime but the EVCO 2A went to a standard scoring system in the off season for soccer and the match ended in a tie.
Chehalis Holiday Inn Express MVP
The Tigers Dina Silva was named MVP for her 2 assists and overall dominating play in the midfield. Mirabel Burger was in the discussion but was already named MVP in the match against Tumwater and we like to spread the love around.
