Tumwater 248, Mount Si 12
(Tumwater, WA) Both Tumwater and Mount Si came into the game with a lot of momentum. Tumwater had been on a dominant two-game run with wins over Liberty (Renton) and Steilacoom while Mount Si took care of business in wins over Arlington and Rogers. A game that spanned two classifications and was the last non-league game for both teams before next week for both schools
1st Half
Tumwater wasted no time, taking an early lead when QB Jake Reid found Ethan Bello for a long touchdown on their opening drive to go up 6-0 after a missed extra point attempt. The T-Birds stayed hot, this time on defense, as Gabe Millard picked off a pass just a few plays into Mount Si’s opening drive. Tyler Briscoe for Tumwater would then cash in from 25 yards out to go up two scores and give the ball back to the Wildcats. Mount Si would three-and-out and punt the ball away to give Tumwater great field position. Once again, the Wing-T offense came through, and Jake Reid found Gabe Millard in the end zone for a touchdown from six yards out.
Tumwater would force another punt and this time bring it to the house in a 45 yard return from Ethan Bello which put Tumwater up 27-0 going into the second quarter. The second quarter was not like the first as penalties started to derail both team’s drives over and over again. Neither offense could produce because penalties dragged them back but the defense for Mount Si started to preform well and got multiple stops against the T-Birds. The only points in the quarter came from a field goal by Grady Wall for Tumwater as they would lead 30-0 going into halftime.
2nd Half
Mount Si would start the second half well as QB Colt Stiles found Wyatt Miller for a 46-yard touchdwon reception and the Wildcats started to build momentum. After a couple swapped possessions, Tumwater got their first touchdown since the first quarter in a 18-yard run from Jayden Hinchcliffe. Mount Si would respond with a nice drive ending with a ten yard touchdown from Cooper Hansen. Tumwater had gotten past the penalty issues and returned to form though.
To start the fourth quarter they put together a ling and methodical drive that ended in an 8-yard touchdown run for Jayden Hinchcliffe. Time had all but run out and while Mount Si tried to make one last push, it was too late. Tumwater drained the clock and wile on the goal line, gave the ball to Nick LaPraim who walked in to a five yard touchdown to put the game away. Tumwater would win 48-12.
Chehalis Holiday Inn Express MVP
The Chehalis Hiliday Inn Express MVP of the game went to Jayden Hinchcliffe as he rushed for 133 yards on 16 carries and had two touchdowns on the day. He is a large part of the offense of Tumwater and showcased exactly why. When they needed a big run or first down they called upon him and he delivered. A big game from Hinchcliffe to help his team remain undefeated.
What’s Next?
Tumwater will play Woodland High School on the road on Friday, September 25th with a 7:00 kickoff. Mount Si will face Hazen on the road on Friday, September 25th with a 7:00 pm kickoff. This is the start of league play for both schools.
