HS Volleyball: Lakes Secures 3rd Place in PSL After Win Over North Thurston

11/3/2026

Lakes 3, North Thurston 0 (25-17, 25-14, 26-24)

(Lacey) In a battle for third place in the PSl, Lakes went on the road to face the defending state champions in North Thurston. Lakes came into the game 11-3 overall and 7-2 in league while coming off a loss to Timberline. North Thurston came into the game 11-4 overall and 7-2 in league as well, while also coming off a loss to Timberline. Both teams had faced each other earlier in the year, and Lakes would win 3-1, but this game has the third-place spot in the PSL on the line, and seeding implications as district playoffs are underway soon.

1st Set

Lakes started strong with early kills from Charlie Prosser and Jeny Solomua, the Lancers’ main setter, but she kept finding weak spots in North Thurston’s defense and caught everyone off guard with no-look hits over the net. Abigail Losey and Kaelani Adams were as productive as always, and Jaeda Cruz and Jazlyn Strachan handled the defense for the Rams.

For 2/3 of the set, the two schools went back and forth with neither getting too much of an edge. Lakes would go on a small run that swung momentum their way, though, and they began to rack up points while their defense became impenetrable. They would win the set 25-17 and launch a dominant rest of the game for the Lancers.

2nd Set

Set two was dominance from start to finish for Lakes. They began with a run of four points followed by a five-point run that put them up nine points early. From there, they never looked back. Karsyn Alefaio, Charlie Prosser, Tomasina Tonauo, Neriyah Doamekpo, and Jeny Solomua were all sharing in the offensive firepower of the Lancers.

It seemed that there wasn’t anything the Rams could do as everything was going right for Lakes. While North Thurston tried their best to mount a comeback, the defense of Lakes would stop it in its tracks, which was led by libero Kinza Timite. Lakes would win the set 25-14 and only needed to win one more for the game.

3rd Set

The third set was the most competitive of the two, and while Lakes got off to another hot start, North Thurston refused to let a lead slip away. Abby Losey and Kaelani Adams continued to rack up points for the Rams and keep the offense moving while their defense also started to figure the Lakes offense out a little more. Karsyn Alefaio, Tomasina Tonuao, and Jeny Solomua continued to dominate on each side of the net, and both teams eventually were in a stalemate. T

he Rams would tie the set late, and from there each team exchanged points and leads back and forth. North Thurston would tie the set once again, 24-24, to force a win by two, but Lakes quickly scored those two points needed, with Jeny Solomua scoring the final blow to win the set for Lakes 26-24. Lakes would get the sweep and secure third place in the PSL as districts slowly approach.

Sumner Holiday Inn Express MVP of the Game

The Sumner Holiday Inn Express MVP went to the freshman Tomasina Tonuao, who was unstoppable at the net for the Lancers. She really got going in the second set, where she was a major reason why Lakes jumped out to a massive lead and she continued her dominance all throughout the rest of the game. As a freshman, she stood out as one of the best offensive players on the court as she racked up kill after kill. An outstanding game for Tonuao as she helped lead her team to third place in an ultra-competitive PSL League.
