(Renton, WA) The Seattle Seahawks announced the passing of form Seahawk great Fredd Young on Monday. The cause of death was not released. Young was an All-America linebacker when he played for the New Mexico State Aggies in the early 80’s. Young was selected by the Seahawks in the 3rd round of the 1984 NFL draft during the Chuck Knox era.
Young made an immediate impact on special teams and was named All-Pro as a special teams player his rookie season. He tookover middle linebacker in his 2nd year and earned All-Pro honors for the next 3 seasons. In 1987 he was named 1st team All-Pro.
He was disappointed when the Seahawks took Brian Bosworth in in the NFL supplemental draft in the summer of 1987 and signed him to a then record 10-year 11-million dollar deal. Young made his frustration known and the Seahawks then traded him to the Colts for two 1st round draft picks. One of those picks was Seahawk legend Cortez Kennedy.
Young played 3 seasons with Indianapolis and then retired. Last year the Seahawks broought him back and named him one of hte 50 all-time Seahawks in franchise history.
Young was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, who loved his family deeply. He is survived by his wife, Michelle, their children, Jessica, Freddy Jr. Matthew, Monroe, Fenix, Jeremiah and Amirah, and grandchildren Jaysha, Jarah, Jianika, Titus, Cassius, Justus and Sunday.
