Last Friday the Federal Way Eagles celebrated a 28-27 win over the White River Hornets. The celebration ended abruptly when the news came that one of the young Eagles players tragically passed away just hours later. Daniel “DeeJay” Tuiasosopo was walking home after the game when he was struck by a car that was hit by a drunk driver. Police and Fire personnel tried but the 16 year old died at the scene.
This week the Eagles took the field with heavy hearts but inspired to keep the legacy of Tuiasosopo going. 3A Federal Way traveled to 4A Sunnyside and came away with a big win. Fittingly the Eagles won 56-0. Fittingly because 56 was the number worn by their fallen teammate. A sea of tears and emotions flowed after the game but the memory and spirit of Tuiasosopo was right there with the Eagles.
