SEATTLE — October 28, 2026
The Seattle Kraken gave their fans a night to remember Wednesday, rallying after surrendering a third-period lead before Brandon Montour delivered the decisive blow with just 32.7 seconds remaining to secure a dramatic 5–4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Climate Pledge Arena.
It was the kind of finish that makes hockey unforgettable: momentum swings, a late Toronto comeback, and one final shot that sent Seattle fans into celebration.
A back-and-forth battle
Berkly Catton didn’t waste any time making his presence felt after being promoted to the Seattle Kraken’s second line. Just 1:59 into Wednesday night’s matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the young forward opened the scoring with a slick backhand finish, giving Seattle an early spark on its way to a thrilling 5–4 victory.
The goal was another encouraging sign of Catton’s growing confidence and offensive impact. He made a strong play at the Toronto blue line, worked a give-and-go with Mackie Samoskevich, then drove into the slot and deked before slipping the puck past goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
The Kraken came out flying in the second period. Josh Mahura scored just 16 seconds in, finishing a two-on-one rush, and Chandler Stephenson added a power-play goal. Ryker Evans then extended Seattle’s advantage to 4–2 with a strong rush and a shot into the far side of the net.
But the Maple Leafs weren’t going away.
McKenna scored his second power-play goal of the night, showcasing his offensive talent, before Jack Roslovic pulled Toronto closer in the third period. With the pressure mounting, Auston Matthews tied the game 4–4 with 90 seconds remaining, as Toronto pulled its goaltender for an extra attacker.

Montour delivers the knockout punch
Just when it looked as though the Kraken might have to settle for overtime, Seattle won a crucial offensive-zone faceoff. Jordan Eberle fed Montour at the top of the right circle, and the defenseman unleashed a slap shot that slipped through Toronto goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
The goal came with just 32.7 seconds left, restoring Seattle’s lead and sealing the 5–4 win.
Philipp Grubauer made 18 saves for Seattle, while Stephenson finished with a goal and an assist. For Toronto, McKenna recorded two goals and an assist, and Matthews contributed a goal and two assists in a losing effort.
A statement finish for Seattle
The victory improved Seattle’s record to 8–4–1 and capped a successful 3–1 homestand. More importantly, the Kraken showed they could respond under pressure after watching a two-goal lead disappear in the final period.
For Kraken fans, Montour’s late winner was the perfect ending to an emotional night. Seattle now heads into its next game with momentum and two valuable points in the standings.
Final score: Seattle Kraken 5, Toronto Maple Leafs 4.
Kraken finish their 4-game homestand with a record 3-1. Overall 8-4-1
