Tumwater 67, Black Hills 6
(Tumwater, WA) After dealing with the disappointment of the annual crosstown rivalry game being canceled last Friday night due to a threat of violence from an individual at the game. After law enforcement located the suspect and the suspect is in custody, they wanted to play this game asap to get it in while they can, as the postseason is fast approaching.
6 pm Monday was agreed upon, and that’s when the 2026 Pioneer Bowl kicked off. This will leave both teams with a short week as Tumwater will travel to face WF West in Chehalis and Black Hills will host Aberdeen, with both games remaining on Friday night.
Coming into tonight’s game, the T-Birds were 7-0, and a win over the Wolves would set up a showdown with the T-Birds and Bearcats on Friday for the EVCO 2A Championship.
Black Hills was 3-3 coming into the Pioneer Bowl, and a win would put them in a great position to even tie for the Championship. A loss would put them in a battle for 3rd with Aberdeen on Friday.
1st Half
From the first drive until the last, the Tumwater offense was on full display. Ethan Bello would catch a 61 yard TD pass from Jake Reid just three plays into the game to make it 7-0. Bello would follow this up on their next offensive drive with a 55 yard touchdown catch after forcing Black Hills to punt. Black Hills would put together many long and methodical drives but the Tumwater defense would keep making stops and getting the ball back.
Jayden Hinchcliffe would get back to back touchdown with one being from 43 yards and one being for 12. After forcing another punt, Tumwater would end the half with a 60 yard touchdown run from Tyler Briscoe. Tumwater would lead 34-0 going into halftime.
2nd Half
The second half was just as dominant for Tumwater and they got right back to work after forcing an early punt from Black Hills. Grady Wall would find himself with a 50 yard touchdown run. Black Hills would collect their only points of the game after a 62 yard touchdown run by Marshal Orona. With gthe Wolves kicking off, the ball would land in the hands of Cameron Briscoe who would return it from inside the 20 all the way to the house for six. On Tumwater’s kickoff, the ball would skip past a Wolves’ returner and touch his hand.
Tumwater jumped on the ball and recovered on the one-yard line. Jacob Reidl would punch it in for the touchdown, and on Tumwater’s next kickoff, a muffed return would give the ball right back in a special teams madness. This led to a 15-yard TD run from Cameron Briscoe for his second of the day. Tumwater would score one more TD before the end of the game as Nick LaPraim cashed in for a 54-yard score. Tumwater would run the clock out and win 67-6 to remain undefeated.
Chehalis Holiday Inn Express MVP of the Game
The Chehalis Holiday Inn Express MVP went to Tumwater’s special teams. There were many different players who had multiple touchdowns, but the special teams of the T-Birds contributed to three touchdowns throughout the game and many PATs. Most notably, Cameron Briscoe returned a kickoff for a touchdown in the third quarter, and the T-Birds also had two back-to-back kickoff recoveries that put the Tumwater offense in the red zone twice, both leading to quick touchdowns. They came to play and blew the game wide open three straight plays.
What’s Next?
