Final Onalaska 34, Toledo 0

(Toledo, WA) A battle between the top Central 2B East teams the Onalaska Loggers and Toledo Riverhawks. Both teams came in 2-0 in league play and 6-1 overall. With one game left in the season and the playoffs right around the corner, wins late in the season are very important. On top of the importance of late season wins the 2B football tournament went from 16 to 12 teams and District 4 gets 3 of those allocations with 5 of the top 11 teams in the RPI. So 2 teams are going to see their seasons come to an end earlier than expected.

1st Half

Onalaska got the ball first and the Toledo defense held them to one 1st down and punt to end the drive. The Riverhawks first drive ended after a fumble on their second play of the game.

The Loggers next drive started at the 50 yard line went 8 plays in just under 3 minutes ending in an Ethan Thayer 1 yard touchdown run. The 2 point try was no good and Onalaska took a 6-0 lead. The next drive of Toledo saw them lose another fumble this time on their first play.

After the fumble Onalaska took over at the Toledo 33 yard line. A 9 play 3 and half minute drive ended the same as the last drive. Ethan Thayer ran the ball in from one yard out and a failed 2 point conversion attempt. However the Loggers led 12-0 with 1:23 to play in the 1st quarter.

Toledo went 3 and out on their next drive. The Riverhawks defense stepped up and forced a fumble and recovered it at their own 15 yard line. The ensuing drive was the Riverhawks best of the first half taking over 4 minutes off the clock. Toledo went to the air and 2 pass interferences on Onalaska extended the drive, however a bad snap on 4th down ended the drive at the Loggers 30 yard line.

The Loggers turned the ball over on downs with 27 seconds left in the half and Toledo knelt to end the half down 12-0.

Halftime Onalaska 12, Toledo 0

Toledo got the ball to start the 2nd half but went 3 and out. Onalaska’s next drive ended with a 4th down interception by Masson Ruiz at the Toledo 5 yard line.

Both teams turned the ball over on downs on their next drives. The Riverhawks got the ball back with 30 seconds to play in the 3rd quarter. On 4th down at their own 25 Toledo went for it and Austin Reed made a great catch but was ruled out of bounds giving Onalaska great field position.

The following drive went 3 plays and ended with a 3 yard touchdown run by Cooper Albertson. The Loggers 2 point try was good and they took a 20-0 lead.

The Riverhawks were forced to go back to the passing game. They moved the ball well but ended up turning the ball over on downs. Onalaska’s next drive ended with a 43 yard touchdown run by quarterback Lane Gordon and a 26-0 lead after the 2 point try failed.

The final touchdown was a 67 yard run by Onalaska’s Haze Hamrick for the 34-0 final score.

Chehalis Holiday Inn Express MVP of the Game

The MVP went to Onalaska’s Ethan Thayer who unofficially had 31 carries for 186 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also pressured the Toledo QB all game on defense. Lane Gordon, Haze Hamrick and Lane Lawrence were also considered but Thayer paced the Logger offense.
