Seattle 3, New England 0

(Foxborough, MA) The Seattle Sounders FC secured a dominant 3-0 road victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. The win extended Seattle’s unbeaten streak to nine matches and marked their fourth consecutive victory, continuing an impressive late-season surge. The Sounders opened the scoring early in the 15th minute. Capitalizing on a New England turnover deep in their own defensive third, midfielder Hassani Dotson picked up the ball just outside the 18-yard box. The Federal Way native took a quick touch and unleashed a sizzling strike from long distance that tucked into the far bottom corner past Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Despite New England holding the edge in overall possession (57%) and outshooting the visitors 12 to 9, they struggled to pierce Seattle’s disciplined defensive lines. The Revolution had opportunities to even the match, most notably in the 33rd minute when Luca Langoni’s attack was blocked by Alex Roldan. Right before halftime, Peyton Miller attempted to score from a tight angle on the endline, but Sounders goalkeeper Andrew Thomas smothered the attempt. Thomas ultimately finished the night with five saves, preserving his eighth clean sheet of the season.

Seattle put the game completely out of reach late in the second half through clinical counter-attacks and smart substitutions. In the 74th minute, forward Dejan Joveljić doubled the advantage. Albert Rusnák picked up his league-leading 14th assist of the season to find substitute Paul Arriola, who set up Joveljić for the finish. It marked Joveljić’s third goal in five appearances since joining the club via a trade.

Just seven minutes later, in the 81st minute, Paul Arriola capped off his spectacular off the bench appearance with the 3rd goal for the Sounders. Taking a pass from Jesús Ferreira, Arriola was patient inside then fired the ball home, icing the match.

The loss was a major setback for the New England Revolution, dropping them from second to fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Seattle Sounders FC walked away with their largest road win of the year, moving within a single point of sixth-place LAFC in the West.
