Drew Lock’s impressive run as QB for the Seahawks over the last two games comes to an end as Sam Darnold is set to return against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Darnold went down with a hip/glute injury on the first drive of the season for the defending Super Bowl champions and has been out since then. In his place has been Drew Lock, who has them 2-0 this season and has proved once again that he is a reliable backup who can lead Seattle to victory. In his last game, he went 19/26 passing for 235 yards and three touchdowns. While he has stepped up and delivered, Darnold will now take back over the reins.
Darnold has been one of the most consistent and winning quarterbacks of the last two seasons. With a career resurgence in Minnesota, where he led them to a 14-3 season before coming to Seattle, he not only helped them become the #1 seed in the NFC but also brought a Super Bowl trophy to the city as well. Darnold has only played a few snaps this season but is now looking to come back in a big way against the Commanders, as he will be back in the starting lineup. There were questions of if he would be cleared only a few days ago, and if he wasn’t, Seahawks fans were more than happy to allow Drew Lock to start against Washington.
With Darnold back under the new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury, the offense for Seattle looks to continue to dominate their opponents with their punishing run game and high-octane passing game led by Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Darnold threw for 4,048 yards last year and 25 touchdowns with 1,793 of those yards coming from Smith-Njigba. The city of Seattle has happy to see their Super Bowl winning QB back in action as they look to win their 13th straight game and continue to show why they are still on top of the league.
