(Enumclaw 50, Decatur 7)
(Federal Way, WA) Enumclaw’s offense has come out strong in 2026 beating Thomas Jefferson in the opening week 70-0 and now putting up 50 on the Decatur Gators.
The Gators came in with momentum themselves after hammering Kentlake in the opening week 46-6. But the Gators fell back to earth in a hurry on Saturday afternoon at Federal Way’s Memorial Stadium.
1st Half
The Hornets wasted little time in firing up their offense. Enumclaw took the opening kick-off out to their 24 yard line and took 7 plays with 6 on the ground before notching their 1st touchdown of the game a 15-yard run from Hunter Brown.
Enumclaw’s defense gave up a couple of 1st downs on the Gators opening drive but ultimately held them to a 4th down at midfield and they punted it away where Enumclaw began their 2nd drive on their own 27.
The Hornets put together a long 9 play drive chipping away at the yardage with 6 rushes and 3 pass plays before Kortland Patterson scored from the 3 yard line to go up 2 scores.
After a 3 and out, the Hornets got the ball on the Gator 26 with 33-seconds to go in the 1st quarter. On 3rd and 2, Brown would score his 2nd TD with an 18-yard run to push the lad to 3 touchdowns.
Defense flexes
The Hornets defense then stepped up and Kortland Patterson scored his 2nd TD of the game this time with a 30-yard pick 6. Enumclaw attempted a 2-point play but failed and with 10:12 to play in the haslf it was 27-0.
Enumclaw and Decatur would exchange possessions and the Hornets would get the ball on the Gator 41 with 3:32 to play before the break. On 3rd down, Kannon Kuzaro would roll to his right and throw back a swing pass to the left where Paxton Patterson graabbed the ball near the line of scrimmage and went the 27 yards for the score. They added the PAT and led 34-0 with a little more than 2 minutes to play.
Thye Hornets would get another shot after the defense got the ball back on downs. The offense tookover on the Gator 42 and after getting it down to the 15-yard line. On the next play Kannon Kuzaro scrambled and looked like he was going to run it as they had a time-out left but found Hunter Brown wide open in the end zone and fired a laser for the score. Brodix John hit yet another PAT and with 40-seconds to play in the half it was 41-0 and that’s where it would remain into the break.
No Big Comeback for the Gators
The 2nd half was unfortunately for Decatur more of the same. The game was in a running clock after trailing 41-0 and gave up a safety on a bad snap to begin the 2nd half. Enumclaw would then score on a 16-yard strike from Kuzaro to Josh Burton to go up 50-0.
The Gators did get on the scoreboard late with a nice 11 play offensive drive capped off with a 10-yard TD pass from Antoine Williams to Idris Heyliger. The extra point was good and the final score was 50-7.
Sumner Holiday Inn MVP of the Game
The Sumner Holiday Inn MVP drew quite a conversation with several contenders but the West 42 Sports crew decided on Hunter Brown. Brown ran the ball 9 times for 118 and 2 TDs and caught 2 passes for 21 yards and another score for a total of 139 yards of offense and 3 scores.
What’s Next?
Enumclaw has now outscored their opponents 120-7 in 2 games and are 2-0. They will open NPSL play next Friday at their cross district rival White River with a kick-off time of 7:30pm.
Decatur can’t wait to put this game in the review mirror and and will be on the visitor’s side of Memorial Stadium next Friday at 7:30 when they face Thomas Jefferson.
