(Seattle, WA) Seahawk fans were stunned to see Super Bowl winning QB Sam Darnold limp off Lumen field Wednesday night and not return to the sidelines. Darnold was injured at the end of the 1st drive of the season just 5 plays into the game.
Darnold was sacked by former Seahawk Dre’ Mont Jones and tackled Darnold awkwardly driving his leg and hip into the ground.
Coach Macdonald updates condition on Thursday
Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald stated at his press conference on Thursday that it looks like they avoided the worst and that Darnold will be week-to-week suffering from a muscle strain.

“Right now, I think we’re just working through the extent of the injury and then putting a plan in place to get back rocking and rolling,” Macdonald said. “So it is a silver lining as we have some extra time here. We’ll kind of get things back up and running on Monday, so hopefully by then we’ll have a really accurate picture of plan of attack and what we’ll do that week.”
Drew Lock is expected to start game 2 against Arizona. Lock thrown into action handled the situation well and when asked post-game what his focus was he said, “take care of the ball.” Lock said ball security and not putting the Seahawk defense in a bad situation was what the offense needed to do and then take advantage of the opportunities that would come the Hawks way. That’s exactly what Lock did going 16-22 for 187 yards and a touchdown to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The bigger numbers, no interceptions or fumbles.
Macdonald has full confidence in Lock and reminded reporters Lock did not get many snaps in the week leading up to Wednesday’s game and so when he comes out next he will be fully prepared. Macdonald said his performance showed what a professional Lock is and even though no one expected him to play Wednesday when he was called on he was ready.
Jones doesn’t appear to be sympathetic
Meantime, Dre’Mont Jones who left the Seahawks after 2024 apparently didn’t leave on good terms. According to a story by Ishani Jayara by Essentially Sports, Jones posted on Instagram, “Year 8. First NFL sack of the season. Gotta win the close ones but we will next time #gopats????❤️????,” Dre’Mont Jones wrote in an Instagram post, tagging the account “f—_the_seahawks” alongside a snapshot of himself bringing down Darnold.

Macdonald expects to have more information and hopefully a timeline for Darnold on Monday.
