Kennedy Catholic 33, Mt Tahoma 0

(Tacoma, WA) Both teams are coming off tough opening week losses with Kennedy Catholic losing to Bellevue 14-10 and Mt Tahoma dropping to Waipahu high school visiting from Hawaii, 26-7. Both teams were looking to take big steps forward in week 2 of the season.

Game Re-Cap

The score is more lopsided than how the game played out. Kennedy Catholic certainly too advantage of many scoring chances and finished drives all night. Mt Tahoma ran into the same issue as they did in their opening week loss, they moved the ball pretty good but could not finish drives to get on the scoreboard.

On the opening drive, the Lancers sxtruck with a 37 yard scoring run from Ben Anderson to go up 6-0. Royce Miller scored next after a big 3rd down completion to the 17 for a 1st and 10, Miller scampered around the right end into the end zone and the Lancers were up 12-0, so far the only negative was not being able to complete either PAT.

One more before Halftime

The T-Birds were hanging in there and just had to get through the final 10 seconds of the half and would have gone into the break down just 12-0. But QB Desmond Parkinson had other idea’s as he dropped back to pass and found a streaking Jordan Noel down the left side line and hit him in stride in for the score with just 3 seconds to play and the 12-0 .lead jumped to 19-0.

Lancers finish the job with a big defensive play

In the 3rd quarter the T-Birds defense was holding on not giving up any points until the 1:54 mark when Royce Miller plunged in from the 1-yard line pushing the lead to 26-0.

K-C’s defense then cemented the win with a pick 6. Mt Tahoma was again moving the ball and in Lancer territory when Jaiden Hammer stepped in front of a pass at the 27-yard line and returned it untouched 73-yards for the pick 6. The PAT was good the 33-0 lead would end up being the final.

Sumner Holiday Inn MVP of the Game

There was a lot of discussion about the Sumner Holiday Inn MVP of the game when the West 42 Sports crew were drawn to the big pick 6 and awarded Jaiden Hammer as the MVP.

What’s Next?

Kennedy Catholic is now 1-1 on the season and will host Stadium at Highline HS on Saturday, September 19 with a 1pm kick-off in another non-league match-up.

Mt Tahoma has not shied away from taking on the best in their non-league schedule losing to one of Hawaii’s best teams in their opener, then losing Kennedy Catholic, last year’s NPSL 4A Champions and getting to the opening round of the State tournament. They have their toughest opponent and likely the best they will face all year next week when they travel to Sumner to face the 2-time defending 4A Champions.

The game is next Friday and kick-off is 7pm.
