(Kent, WA) The new West 42 Sports will begin the 2026 High School sports season with a good one between two teams with lots of history and looking to get back to the top when Skyline head to Kentwood. The Spartans and Conquerer’s will kick-off at 6pm Thursday night at French field on the Kent-Meridian HS campus.
Last year, the Skyline Spartans battled hard in the Kingco where they ended the season in a 3-way tie for the league title with Bellevue and Bothell. Skyline beat Bothell 14-7 but lost a heartbreaker to Bellevue 21-20.
The Spartans advanced to the State tournament beating Arlington 33-13 in the round of 32. They traveled to Camas in the opening round and handled the Papermakers 33-20. They were on the road again in the quarters at Puyallup where their season came to an end losing to the Vikings 49-20.
Kentwood has had a long history in the NPSL with a lot of trophies in the trophy case but have been just a step behind over the past several seasons. Last year, there were more than flashes of the return to glory years as the Conks had some big wins including Spanaway Lake and Stadium.
They finished 2nd in league play to Kennedy Catholic and advanced to the round of 32 where Curtis knocked them out 30-20.
Both teams showed long runs of good football and no doubt ready to build on that in 2026.
