Tie-Breaker and Crossover Match-ups next week

The three schools involved in the Central 2B three-way tie, decided a coin flip would determine the seedings. The 1-seed would get to host Rainier, the 2-seed would play Toledo, and the 3-seed would have to travel to Onalaska.

The coin flip went Adna’s way. They ended up as the 1-seed and they’ll host Rainier on Friday with a 5:00 kickoff time. Napavine ended up as the 2 seed and will travel to Toledo Friday, with a listed 8 pm kickoff time, and that leaves Forks as the number 3 seed. They’ll be heading to Onalaska. No day or time has yet been posted.

The winners of those crossover games will all advance to be seeded into the state tournament.

West 42 Sports Game Story of Forks defeating Pe Ell-Willapa Valley

Forks 47, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 14

On a very foggy late October night the Fork Spartans had it all their own way as they jumped out to a big early lead over Pe Ell-Willapa Valley. It took just two plays before Bubba Hernandez busted off a big 55-yard run over the left side of the offensive line for 6. The PAT missed but in less than a minute the Spartans led 6-0.

After the Spartans pinned the Titans deep in their own territory they had to punt out of their own endzone and handed Forks the ball back on the PWV 20-yard line. After a loss of 6 and facing 2nd and 16, Lane Helvey dropped back to pass and hit Cash Barajas on a slant about the 10-yard line and Barajas took it the rest of the way for the touchdown. Forks then completed the two-point conversion and pushed their lead to 14-0. Two drives, a total of four offensive plays, and the Spartans jumped out to a 14-0 lead.

Just one play into the second quarter and Forks would extend that lead as Kaden Ward pounded it in from the 1-yard line. Mario Reyes came on to kick the extra point, booted it through, and Forks led by three touchdowns, 21 to nothing.

The Titans would get a spark on their next offensive possession, starting on their own 33-yard line. Brody McGruder dropped back to pass and found Kaeden Blain down the right side. Blaine, wide open, took it to the house, 67 yards into the end zone, and got PWV on the board. The Titans would go for two but the intended pass was intercepted so it was no good. PWV trailed Forks at that point, 21 to 6.

That score would hold all the way to the final play of the first half, with 10 seconds to go. Forks completed a pass with a timeout left, down to the 5-yard line, but a holding call pushed them back to the 24-yard line with 4 seconds to play. Helvey would drop back to pass. He’d find Barajas again, right around the 5-yard line. It looked like he was going to get caught short, but he cut across toward the middle of the field, found a gap, and went into the end zone miraculously for the score. The extra point was good and they headed to the half with a big 28-6 lead, Forks in front of PWV.

Any hope of a comeback was not going to happen as Forks poured it on, eventually leading 47-6. That included a blocked punt into the end zone, recovered by Forks’ Connor Roberts to cap the Spartan scoring. The Titans would score one final touchdown and add the two-point extra point for a final score of 47-14.

The West 42 Sports Crew determined that the Sumner-Chehalis Holiday Inn Express MVP award would go to Cash Barajas for a couple of touchdowns. He was one of several who could have earned that award tonight.
