Curtis 0, Bellarmine 0
(University Place, WA) The girls soccer season has kicked off for both the visiting Bellarmine Prep Lions and home team Curtis Vikings. The Lions come in 1-0 with a non-league win over Emerald Ridge. The Vikings are already 2-0 with two 2-0 shut-outs of Union and Skyview.
Both teams failed to make it to State last year after getting knocked out in districts. Curtis avenged their district loss already in the 2-0 season opener against Union. Bellarmine has to wait till the end of the season for their rematch with Timberline.
1st Half
Curtis was the more dominant team offensively in the first half. The Vikings took 4 corners in the half but a stout Lions defense kept them at bay. Bellarmine’s Charlotte Lamb notched 6 first half saves as the teams finished the first half in a 0-0 draw.
2nd Half
The second half opened with the Lions setting the pace out of the gates. However a goal line save by Lexi Wan in the 46th kept the match scoreless. Curtis would take 3 more corners in the match, all taken by Olivia Lorella. While Bellarmine would finish with 1 corner for the match. Charlotte Lamb finished with 10 saves for B Prep and Curtis’ Nora Bell finished with 2 saves. The defenses won out and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

In a 0-0 defensive showdown we named an MVP for each team. For Bellarmine Prep it was Charlotte Lamb with her 10 saves and for Curtis the honor went to Olivia Lorella for her corners and solid play along the back line.
What’s Next
Curtis is now 2-0-1 and the Viks go on the road for their next 2 matches. They play Peninsula on September 15th and then Spanaway Lake on the 17th.
Bellarmine goes to 1-0-1 on the season and they head to Oregon for their next match against Central Catholic on September 17th. Their next match against a Washington opponent is September 22nd at North Thurston.
